November 5 Bulletin

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Klaas Boskers, Rena DeRuiter, Lea Dykstra and Ernie Stebner in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child:

It’s that time of year again when we start thinking about Christmas. Are you willing to fill a shoebox for a child who is in need? The shoeboxes are available in the foyer. A brochure is included in each shoebox with instructions on what to fill the boxes with and what not to include. Once they are filled please bring them back to the church. The last date for collecting them at church will be next Sunday, November 12th.

Lost & Found:

The box at the bottom of the stairs at the front of the church is overflowing with a vast assortment of coats & hoodies - many of which seem to show up after Tuesday Nite Youth - Tupperware and toys. Please take a moment to check for any items which might belong to YOU. Leftovers will be given to the Building Blocks Thrift store soon!

DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

To the congregation of Bethel CRC, Lacombe:

We are thankful for your gifts of $1,497.25 to World Renew received this past summer 2017. Your gifts are transforming lives through our Canadian Foodgrains Bank projects and more. Through your support, prayers and involvement, World Renew can intervene in our hurting world, bringing practical help in development, justice and disaster response programs that create positive, permanent change. The scale of need around our world is beyond comprehension, especially recently with hurricanes, wildfires, and refugees -- as well as the disasters, poverty and injustices that don’t make the news. It is in times like these that we can find comfort in remembering that our world still belongs to God. We invite you to join together in prayer for our hurting world -- visit worldrenew.net/pray for specific ways to pray for World Renew's ministry around the globe.

Free Advent Devotional:

"Immanuel, Incarnate" is an email devotional series that features reflections from CRC ministries around the world during Advent 2017. World Renew and the CRC Office of Social Justice will explore the Incarnation of Christ and His presence in our lives as we prepare to celebrate His birth. Each devotion will be delivered to your email inbox every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, starting December 4th through Christmas Day. Go to crcna.org/advent to sign up today!

Lacombe Christian School & CACHS invite you to come out to this proactive community discussion to raise awareness of the very real threat that fentanyl is posing, and to help understand the crisis happening in our communities. The presentation is at Lacombe Christian School, West Campus on November 15th, at 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. We encourage parents to attend, and will be age appropriate for older students (Junior High and up).

PERSECUTED CHURCH

China

On September 22nd, officials in Hubei Province arrested Pastor Xu Shizhen, her daughter and 3 year old grandson. After the three had engaged in a house church outreach, police and religious affairs officials became upset by the event, resulting in their arrest. The three had taken part in an evangelistic effort sponsored by their unregistered congregation to proclaim Christ in public parks and squares. During the outreach the women shared the Gospel, even though local authorities frequently interrupted them. Police officers separated the two women from the young child, keeping him at the station while transferring his mother and grandmother to other locations. Pastor Xu Shizhen had previously led a house church that forcibly became part of the country's official Three-Self Church in April 2012 after officials occupied the building and damaged church property. May the ministering women be strengthened while waiting for release from detainment, utilizing the opportunity to testify of their faith to other prisoners. Please uphold little Xu Shouwang during this time of separation from his mother and grandmother. Intercede on behalf of the authorities involved in this case, that they too will be touched by the Spirit of our Living God and receptive to His life-saving message of love.
