Service

Today we bring our offerings for The Mustard Seed – Red Deer. At the Mustard Seed they provide hearty meals to some of the most vulnerable people in Red Deer. We can share our blessings by providing support to the Mustard Seed so they can serve a hot meal and a hearty serving of hope. Their vision and mission for adults experiencing poverty and homelessness is to have their basic needs met, offering a growing hope and moving toward a sustainable life change and integration into the broader community.

Next Sunday, December 10th we will take an offering for EduDeo Ministries. EduDeo Ministries is a Canadian Christian mission organization serving children in developing countries with quality education rooted in a Biblical worldview. Their vision and mission is, every community transformed by the gospel, and to advance Christ-centered education for children worldwide.

Food for Thought: It is Advent and we wait for Jesus, the Light of the World. “The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”

Psalm 27:1,14

ATTENTION PARENTS OF ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH:

Today we will meet after the service, in the sanctuary to go through the Play for next Sunday. Your child/children should have received their part in your mailbox this morning. If you do not have a part let Donna know and she will find you a spot! Please note that preschool does not have any speaking lines but will participate so please come to the practise. Next week Sunday school, Children and Worship and Treasure Seekers will meet in their classrooms before the service and Youth will meet downstairs in the preschool Sunday school room. Everyone will need a working flashlight with their name on it. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a visit while we practise! Thank you!

The meaning of the Advent wreath and theme – Darkness & Light:

The Advent wreath is large and circular in shape. The circle has no beginning or end, reminding us of God’s unending love for us. It is made of evergreens, which are a sign of life in an otherwise lifeless winter. They point to the new life and the hope of eternal life that we find in Christ.

The focus of the candle lighting is on the increasing light. A spark of hope was kindled by the promise of a death-blow to the serpent. That spark grew as God continued to reveal his plan: Think of Isaac, an only son whose father was asked to sacrifice him; Ruth, and her kinsman-redeemer Boaz; dry bones coming to life; a green shoot growing out of a tree stump and a virgin conceiving a child. Darkness gives way to dawn. The Light of the World inhabits our time and space. As we see the increasing light of our Advent wreath, let’s bow down in worship, full of wonder and joy! Our Saviour has been born!

UPCOMING SERVICES

Next Sunday, December 10th

We will hold our Children’s Christmas Worship service at 10:30 a.m. During the service the children and youth of our church will present the program “The Light Before Christmas”. There are invitations on the table in the foyer if you would like to invite family and neighbors to this special service.

From the Fellowship Ministry Leadership team:

It’s time to get some baking done for the holidays. How about getting into the Christmas spirit by bringing some baked goods to share while we fellowship with one another after the Children’s Christmas service next Sunday, December 10th. Thank you for your generosity.
