2018-03-11 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Walter Land, Alex Wildeboer and Clarence Kits as they celebrate birthdays this week. To each of you, we pray for a wonderful day with family and friends. As you enter your new year, may our Lord richly bless you daily! J

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Klaas Boskers, Rena DeRuiter, Lea Dykstra and Ernie Stebner in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

These are the highlites of our Council Executive meeting of March 7/18:

1. We discussed the Ministry leadership team reports.

2. We tabulated the results of the office bearer nominations for presentation to Council at the March 14th meeting.

3. We are extending an invitation to hire Steven Berkenpas for a 2 month period from July 15th to September 9th to help pastor Bethel.

Pastor Search Committee:

Our team met at the home of Terry Vandenborn this week. We reviewed the references we received over the past week from our remaining candidates (three graduating students). We also went over the interview questions which we should be conducting soon. Before the next meeting all of us will listen to 6 more sermons that we chose. It has been eleven months since we have started this journey together. We are a dedicated group meeting approximately twice a month, nearly all of us present for each meeting. Each of us have our own ideas, values, opinions, but we are working together, with the help of God, to find the right Pastor for our church. We appreciate your prayers.

Bethel Alpha:

Here are some questions our guests asked at our recent Alpha meeting. "Why does God allow evil? Couldn't he have created people to do only good things? What about people who grow up in very suppressive cultures, how can they know about God?” Questions about the bible: “Why do people say the bible is 66 books, isn't it just one book? The bible is so diverse, how do I know where to start reading? Why couldn't Jesus have stayed on earth?" For those of us raised in the church from early childhood, it’s hard to imagine the questions we might otherwise have. Please continue to remember this group in your prayers. Pray for wisdom to answer these questions. Pray that Alpha creates a hunger in people's hearts to want to know and respond to Jesus free gift of grace and forgiveness.

After a recent attack on a girls' school in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19th, Boko Haram militants left the scene, 110 schoolgirls -- between the ages of 11 and 19 -- disappeared with them. They were taken to an unknown location. Nigerian authorities are actively searching for the girls; they have been assured that the girls are safe and in good condition, and that they will be released unharmed. Of the 276 girls kidnapped from Chibok in 2014, more than 100 are still missing. A number of those who have been found were raped and forced into marriage to their captors. Please bring all the missing schoolgirls from Dapchi and Chibok to the Lord's throne of grace. Pray for their protection in captivity and soon release. Also remember the girls from Chibok who have been safely released, as they struggle to reintegrate into society and resume the normalcy of life with their loved ones.
