2018-08-05 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Willie Stebner as she celebrates her birthday on Saturday. Wishing you a wonderful day filled with the Lord’s richest of blessings with family and friends! J

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us. Please keep Jenny Bajema, Klaas Boskers, Rena DeRuiter, Lea Dykstra and Ernie Stebner in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Pastor Search Committee:

Once again we are reading profiles on the CRC website and contacting Pastors who are willing to move to our location and fit our criteria. We ask them if they are open to a conversation/call. We receive many "No's". Sometimes they ask us questions. Occasionally we will get an inquiry from a Pastor or Candidate who has read our ad. We then read their profiles, ask for sermons and discuss them as a group. The task can be discouraging at times but we "press on". Philippians 3:14. As we trust in our Lord to provide all things, even pastoral candidates, we will continue with our next meeting on August 23rd at Mel Wildeboer’s home.

From Youth Ministry Leadership Team:

We are seeking a committed individual or couple who is called to serve the Young Adults at Bethel. Who are the Young Adults: Young Adults includes all high school graduates up to unmarried individuals age 25. What is the committment: Young Adults is a self-run group that meets as per their schedule for Bible study and social occasions. Serving this group entails encouraging and facilitating meetings as well as mentor-ship and liaison with YMLT. Please keep this area of need in your prayers. If you feel this is an area that you are passionate about and are willing to serve or if you have questions please call or text Amaris @ 403-872-1568.

Rightnow Media:

Over the last couple of weeks I have contacted a number of members to confirm emails that were sent to RNM. Just making sure that you received the invitation and to see if anyone needed assistance with making their accounts. So far so good! I encourage anyone who hasn’t done so or if you know of someone who would like to be added, to please contact me at the church.

My next step is to introduce you to the goodies that are located in the many categories they suggest for your enjoyment. But as I have found out, part of my job is to partner up with the Pastor, Ministry team leaders and Youth of our congregation to find out what you prefer to work with so that I may construct a Bethel CRC library of our own to promote to our congregation and guests for their enjoyment. Two themed categories suggested are: Core Foundations of our Church or OK, I’m a Christian, Now What?? I am working with an account consultant by the name of Nate Hickman, on how to navigate the website and would like to invite anyone who is interested to join the process. On August 22nd at 9 a.m. Nate and I will be working on Empowering Your Team to Make Disciples with the materials we now have access to. Please contact myself, Dana, for more information or to join in on the instruction class.

Rightnow Media includes these Christian authors and many Children’s Christian programing. Take look and discover!

You’re Invited! - The Passion Play at Oberammergau!

You’re invited to learn more about the world famous Passion Play, performed only once every decade by residents of the small Bavarian hamlet of Oberammergau, Germany. The first performance took place in 1634 on a simple wooden stage in the village cemetery, and now they are preparing once again for their world-renowned performance telling the story of Christ. It all begins again May 2020, with shows running through the summer. Preparations are already underway as excitement builds around this momentous event. Please join us this Friday, August 10th, at Woodynook Christian Reformed Church for an informative evening with Jessica Folkerts and Collette Vacations. We will also dive into some possible itineraries encompassing Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary. Doors open at 6:30pm with the presentation beginning at 7:00pm, snacks and refreshments will be provided. For any questions or to RSVP please contact Jessica Folkerts (jessica@thetravelfolk.ca or 780-905-3348). Hope to see you there!

Super Early Bird registration for the DOE (Day of Encouragement) is back!

For the month of August, the first 40 people to register for the 2018 DOE will be able to register at the discounted rate of $40. Because it is early, you do have the option of registering without picking your workshops by selecting the undecided tab. Two features that have been added are a new full day workshop tract for church administrators. This option will be brought to you by Bryan Haley from the CRC's ReFrame Media group called Church Juice. It will include a morning and afternoon workshop that will be focused on a variety of church administrative work. The other new item will be a mid-day musical interlude featuring an emerging Edmonton artist named Clinton Richardson. Check him out on YouTube or at www.clintonrichardson.ca. See the link below to start your registration now... www.regonline.ca/doe2018edmonton. Full presenter bios, workshop descriptions and posters will follow as developed. Questions can be directed to yournadc@gmail.com and we are still looking for local CRC artists and photographers from our churches who would like to display their work on that day. Please contact me! Churches throughout Jiangxi received a warning in early July from authorities demanding that all crosses be removed, and instead they were to be replaced with the national flag or an image of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The warning also demanded that they keep all children away from church. The response from churches was mixed. Many were too frightened to speak up and others openly refused to obey the orders. When confronted about children in the church, the leader of a Church, wisely responded with this statement: "Your policy is in conflict with the Constitution. When the children are born, they are citizens of the People's Republic of China, and they have freedom of belief. Children's freedom of belief cannot be interfered with. They can follow their parents' beliefs." Pray for wisdom and guidance on the part of the church leaders in Jiangxi as they deal with these unreasonable demands. May their responses be expressed with gentleness, serving as a testimony of God's grace to those opposing them and a means of demonstrating the truth of the Living Christ.
