Bethel News

Education Ministry Leadership Team:

The new Sunday school program for ages 3 to grade 2 is looking for teachers and helpers for the next season. Please note this is a change for this age group as Children and Worship will not be offered. The EMLT would like to work with interested teachers to choose a new program by hopefully using our RightNow media account. If you are willing to serve in this exciting new program with a great group of kids, please contact an EMLT member, Jessica Heidelberg, Jackie Bouwman, Dana van Gyssel or Michele Noort.

Coffee Break:

Ladies, just a reminder that time goes on. Next month will be September and events and activities in the church will slowly start up again. Coffee Break, a women's Bible study, will start September 19th. If you have been a member, this is a reminder. If you have never been to Coffee Break, or it’s been a long time since you last joined other ladies to study God's Word. Feel free to discover a relaxed atmosphere, we have coffee (or tea) together, have time to socialize and catch up, and, of course, time for study and prayer. We are planning to start the year with "Discover the Power of Forgiveness", a 6-lesson study. We also hope to look at the Commandments Jesus gave, and the life of Ruth, an amazing and inspiring woman from the Old Testament. Please Note: we are in need of servant helpers for Nursery! If this is something you feel like doing, please contact Margaret Roolker (403-782-4506)

Book Club:

There's no meeting in the month of August, but this is a good time to remind you that in September we will get together again. If anyone is interested in joining, there's always room for more! It’s fun and relaxing, a good way to get to know each other better, and we've found that each book we read teaches us something. The book for September is "A History of Loneliness" by the author John Boyne. It would be Gerry Prins' turn to ring refreshments. All meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, at the home of Margaret Roolker, at 7:30 p.m. Our September meeting is on September 13th.

Bethel Youth Retreat 2018:

Christian Living: The Struggle is Real!

Life is never as easy as we want it to be. Car tires blow out. Work piles up. Kids throw tantrums. It’s a struggle. But should it be? We often believe that when we follow Jesus, life should get easier. And when it doesn’t we tell ourselves we’re failing or stuck or abandoned by God. But it’s simply not true. In this 6-part series, Nicole Unice explores why life’s a struggle and what to do about it. With God as the hero of the story, a hard day has new meaning. We can find joy in him instead of feeling stuck. And our lives can be defined by redemption instead of struggle. Other Christian Living titles includes: Crossing the Waters by Leslie Layland Fields and Keeping Place by Jen Pollock Michel. All located on the Rightnow Media site or the App under the Bethel CRC library and then the Weekly Feature. Take a look today!! If you are in need of assistance, please contact Dana.

The government of Tajikistan suppresses and punishes religious activity, imprisoning individuals of the Christian faith on unproven criminal allegations, Christianity continues to grow. By law, religious literature must be approved by government censors. The teaching of religion to children under the age of 18 is banned, except in a few isolated cases. Please pray for Christians throughout Tajikistan as they continue to share God's love amidst hostility. God's Word reminds us to intercede on behalf of those in governmental authority who are in need of His wisdom to govern righteously (1 Timothy 2:1-3).
