OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Happy Birthday!! to Lies Boskers as she celebrates her birthday today, and John Bos as he celebrates on Tuesday. To both of you, we pray that our Lord grants you continued strength, peace and love with family and friends! J

Our condolences to Cora & Ed Stol, Marcella & Craig Van Stryland, Marvin & Jeanne Ebens, Selina & Mark Patterson and Wilf & Friedle Ebens with the passing of their mother, Els Ebens on September 11, 2018. May the love of Jesus comfort you during this difficult time. Els Ebens funeral will be on Tuesday, September 18th at 2:00 p.m.

Dear friend to Terry & Donna Vandenborn, John Heer of Lacombe, passed away September 6, 2018. Our thoughts and prayers to you and John’s family during this time of mourning. A memorial service will be held here in Bethel on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with tea to follow.

It’s with great sadness we hear of the passing of Ernie Stebner on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. We pray for Willie, family and friends as they mourn the passing of a dear husband, friend and brother in Christ. May our Lord’s arms of love comfort you during this time. Ernie’s funeral will be held in Bethel on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Neil De Koning will be officiating.

Please remember Willie in your prayers as she is experiencing restrictive movement due to a broken ankle. She is in a cumbersome boot but is able to move around.

Dear Bethel Church Family, Thank you very much for the concern you have communicated and for your ongoing prayers for John Bos, during this past month. His health continues to gradually improve. Your prayers continue to be coveted. Thank you for so beautifully reflecting the love of Christ. With appreciation, Mr. and Mrs. John and Shirley Bos

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us. Please keep Jenny Bajema, Klaas Boskers, Rena DeRuiter, Lea Dykstra and Ernie Stebner in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

From the Deacons:

Please take note that beginning September 30, 2018 we will be going to only one collection plate during the offering. Remember, if you are writing a cheque to put a note in the memo portion, whether it is for Budget or otherwise. Any cash or Bethel bucks intended for the budget can be placed in an envelope provided in the pews. Please fill out the envelope before you place in the offering plate. We ask that you are all respectful of these offering envelopes and do not use them for other purposes. Thank you

Living Members

Will be held at Ken & Trudy Salomons tonight at 7 p.m. We will be studying lesson 5 of The Parables of Jesus.

Prayer Team:

We will begin our meetings again this week, Tuesday, September 18th, 10:00 a.m. at the home of Margaret Roolker. Anyone who feels led by the Spirit of our Lord to join in communal prayer for our congregation and its needs, please feel free to join us. It is not only precious to be together with fellow prayer warriors, it is also very necessary as Satan goes around like a lion seeking who he can devour and wants to sift us as wheat. Jesus told His disciples He prayed for them so their faith would not fail. Should we not join Him in this prayer for each other? Hope to see you Tuesday morning!

Coffee Break:

Our first meeting will be held this Wednesday, September 19th, 9:30 a.m. We hope to see you all there again, and if you can inform anyone else of this wonderful opportunity for women to be together and share and learn together, please invite them to join us! We will begin with a study on The Power of Forgiveness.

Pastor Search Committee:

Our next meeting will take place at the home of Betty Scholing at 7:30p.m. on Thursday, September 20th. Please note that the location has changed.

Creation Ministries speak on Amazing Evidences for a Young Universe

Get Answers! Does God exist? How can anyone believe in religion when science has neither a need nor a place for God? If God is a God of love, why do we suffer and die? This is an issue that affects everyone! Evolution teaches us there is no need for God, there is no spiritual realm, and there is no afterlife. According to the theory, spirituality is just an evolutionary trick of the mind! Come hear Gus Olsthoorn from Creation Ministries speak on Amazing Evidences for a Young Universe on November 17th at 6:30 p.m. at Parkland URC. Anyone 10 yrs and up are encouraged to come.

Calling all Quilters

The Christian Reformed Church in North America recently renovated its Canadian office. We think a quilt, put together by CRC members from across North America, would be a great addition to one of the rooms. If you'd be willing to put together a block for our quilt, please visit https://bit.ly/2x3GKJs for the pattern and additional information. You can also email Sheila Van Der Linden at sheila@theyegquilter.com.

We are taking applicants for the start of its second co-hort group which begins this fall. What is spiritual direction? Why does it matter? How can it help the church? Check out the website at www.thestudionschool.com or contact Pastor Ron Klok at rev.klok@gmail.com for more info.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

China:

One of the largest unofficial house churches was closed on September 9th, while new measures have been introduced to curb religious activities online. Beying's Zion Church had refused to place cameras in its auditorium at government's request; it refused also to official register the church. The congregation is planning to keep meeting outdoors. That same Sunday different churches in central and south-western China were also raided. Organizations that want to distribute religious information online will now need a license from provincial religious affairs departments; new guidelines are drafted by the government for social media to deal with the 'chaotic and illegal' promotion of religion on the internet. Pray for wisdom and courage for Chinese Christians who consider, like Peter and John in Acts 4:19-20, “Whether it is right in God's sight to obey you, the government, rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

RIGHTNOW MEDIA WEEKLY FEATURE

Men & Women Ministries: GodSpeed by Matt and Julie Canlis,

What would it look like for you to slow down this week? Follow the story of a young American pastor whose desire to change the world grinds to a halt in a slow Scottish parish. With the help of mentors Eugene Peterson and N. T. Wright, Pastor Matt Canlis discovers how Jesus walked this earth at three miles an hour. He saved the world at a walking pace, a pace of knowing and being known. The Godspeed documentary challenges each Christian to live at Godspeed, a way of life that allows them to be face to face to their Lord, their neighbor, and themselves.

This and other Men & Women studies are located on the Rightnow Media site or the App under the Bethel CRC library and then the Weekly Feature. Take a look today!! If you are in need of assistance, please contact Dana.
