2019-08-18 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema, Bill Wildeboer, Dave Reitsma and Rena DeRuiter. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world. Please remember Diana Boot, Margaret Njuguna, Mark, Selina & Levi Patterson, Albert & Carolyn Strydhorst and John & Marian VanderMeer.

Prayer: We need never be afraid to go to our heavenly Father in prayer. In the Psalms we can read how David and others often cried out to God to answer them, to hear their prayers, to forgive, to restore, to give them joy, to revive them. And there is praise: no one stronger, mightier, and more willing to listen and give us our hearts desires to us than our God in heaven. No wonder Paul told us to never stop praying!

Congratulations to Peter and Polly Mooy, who will be celebrating their anniversary on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. We praise and thank the Lord with them and their family for 50 years of marriage and pray that the Lord will continue to "Shine His Face upon them and be gracious to them." Numbers 6:2.Your Bethel Church family presents you with gift of flowers today.

Pete & Polly Mooy we married on Wednesday, August 20, 1969 by Rev. Vriend here at Bethel CRC. With four children and 11 great grandchildren they would like to celebrate with Bethel by serving cake after the morning worship service. Please join us!

Thank you for all the love, prayers, support, cards for the recent passing of Steve’s father and Steve’s healing and recovery of his amputation. We are grateful and thankful for the final outcome.

Steve & Caroline Ogi

Dave Reitsma, Lord willing, will be moving to the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre from the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre tomorrow, August 19th. Please contact Emma Reitsma at 403-782-3995 first if you would like to visit. Dave’s health is deteriorating steadily. Please continue to hold Dave and Emma in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Our sympathy goes to Liz Hutchison on the passing of her mother, Hilje Bromling. Funeral services for Hilje will be held at Rimbey Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Continue to remember Pastor Peter Sluys as he is suffering from severe dementia. He is located at the Extendicare Holyrood Home in Edmonton. Please pray for Pastor Peter and his family as they walk this difficult journey that they will experience God’s peace and strength.

Bethel News

From Pastor Jake:

The dog days of summer have arrived! It’s a time for vacations, back to school shopping, last trips to the beach and mountains. But it is also a time for ministry leaders to start thinking and planning for the beginning of the church year again! As part of planning for the upcoming church season, Pastor Jake is asking you to let him know if you are a leader of a small group and its name. The goal is to put together a complete list of small groups for people to become a part of and to invite their friends, neighbours, fellow students and co-workers. If you are willing to take a challenge of becoming a leader or co-leader in one of Bethel Church Ministries as we seek to Follow Jesus, Love Others. Serve Our Community and Share Our Faith. Pastor Jake would appreciate an opportunity to sit down with you to explore how he might support you; see what training and resources you might need, so that we can start off strong after Labour Day. Pastor Jake is available to discuss with you how and where God is working in your life, as part of the Bethel Family. We ask that you pray about where God may be calling you to participate in the ministries of Bethel for Him.

The Fellowship Ministry Leadership Team

would like to thank everyone, who helped with putting the Bethel float in the Lacombe parade. We appreciate all who came out to help with the decorations, theme, planning and putting the float together and of course everyone, who participated on Parade Day. We pray that the theme: "For God so loved the world...John 3:16" and "Jesus is the best lifesaver" will make an impact on those who were watching the parade and receiving the handouts.

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. at the home of Henry and Joan Eisses. Please take some time to review the suggestions for our mandate before we meet.

Coffee Break Notice:

Dear Ladies, it’s only August, and a little early to see a Coffee Break announcement but both study leaders, Martha Warner and Margaret Roolker have made the decision to step back for an undetermined period of time as leaders of this women's ministry. Normally Coffee Break starts around the middle of September. There is time for those ladies who are interested to get together and discuss things and to inform the Coffee Break ladies who do not belong to our congregation of the possible changes. May the Lord bless the continuation of this ministry, in whatever form, in the coming season.

GEMS Camp 2019

was held this past week at the beautiful Rehoboth Camp facility at Gull Lake. 43 girls and 15 staff members spent 5 days enjoying God's creation, singing, going to chapel, campfires, swimming, eating many delicious meals and a variety of other activities! Our theme this year was "Outrageous" - how outrageous God's love is for us even though we sin every day! We give thanks for all the volunteers who made this year’s camp a success; the Counsellors, the CIT's, the Cooks, the Handyman, the Directors and all those that donated food from the various churches. "So whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord" Colossians 3:23. GEMS Camp 2020 will be held August 17-21, 2020. We'd love to see you there!

Dear Bethel Congregation:

I want to thank you for your generous gifts! In Matthew 28, Jesus says: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” That’s the mission you’re part of when you give to missionaries, church planters, and ministry leaders around the world. Thank you for journeying with them as they serve God both around the corner and around the world. You are helping to make disciples of all nations! You are equipping people around the globe with the tools they need to go forward and tackle new opportunities for ministry. You are joining in God’s mission to proclaim the gospel—and Resonate ministry leaders see people accept Jesus as Lord and Savior every day! That’s the impact your gift to Resonate has—people’s lives have been changed because of you. You are investing in the global church—you are investing in the future of God’s kingdom. Thank you for your partnership.

In Christ, Zachary King, Director

A home prayer meeting was disrupted by Hindu nationalists in Uttar Pradesh on July 28th. As some men and women were walking to the meeting, they were recognized as Christians, and they were physically and verbally assaulted. When they arrived where they were expected, the harassment continued. The attackers entered the house and dragged the Pastor outside where they began beating him. When police arrived, he was arrested and taken to the police station where the abuse resumed. After five hours of interrogation, the police determined that no conversions were taking place at the meeting and the pastor was released. No action was taken against those who beat him. Remember them who were injured during this recent assault as they recover, asking God to protect them from any further attacks. Pray for the ministry of the church in their community so it will grow and flourish despite opposition. May those who oppose the Gospel come to faith in Christ
