2019-08-25 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema, Bill Wildeboer and Rena DeRuiter. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world. Please remember Diana Boot, Margaret Njuguna, Mark, Selina & Levi Patterson, Albert & Carolyn Strydhorst and John & Marian VanderMeer.

There are a number of people and families in our midst who are mourning recent losses of loved ones. While it is good and comforting to know that they may rest in the Lord, we are here still left with the feelings of grief, sadness and sorrow. But even for this we have Jesus, he to wept at the grave of Lazarus. So let's hold each other up, and remember each one who is mourning when we pray and ask the Lord to give them comfort.

Bethel News

From Pastor Jake:

The dog days of summer have arrived! It’s a time for vacations, back to school shopping, last trips to the beach and mountains. But it is also a time for ministry leaders to start thinking and planning for the beginning of the church year again! As part of planning for the upcoming church season, Pastor Jake is asking you to let him know if you are a leader of a small group and its name. The goal is to put together a complete list of small groups for people to become a part of and to invite their friends, neighbours, fellow students and co-workers. If you are willing to take a challenge of becoming a leader or co-leader in one of Bethel Church Ministries as we seek to Follow Jesus, Love Others. Serve Our Community and Share Our Faith. Pastor Jake would appreciate an opportunity to sit down with you to explore how he might support you; see what training and resources you might need, so that we can start off strong after Labour Day. Pastor Jake is available to discuss with you how and where God is working in your life, as part of the Bethel Family. We ask that you pray about where God may be calling you to participate in the ministries of Bethel for Him.

Gao Zhisheng, a prominent human rights lawyer, has personally experienced persecution for many years. His initial arrest was in 2006; since then, he has been released and re-arrested numerous times, often disappearing to undisclosed locations at the hands of the authorities. When Gao had gone missing on August 13th, 2017, family and friends had assumed he had been apprehended by the authorities again. Yet, in reality, two of his supporters had smuggled him out of the province in an attempt to free him from house arrest and keep him safe. After three weeks of intensive searching, the authorities managed to locate him, and Gao has not been seen nor heard from since. Gao secretly penned a book where he describes his sufferings and reveals how he came to faith while being imprisoned for defending Pastor Cahei Zhuohua back in 2004 and 2005.Lift up in prayer Gao and his family and friends as they struggle with the pain and uncertainty of his undisclosed location. Pray that God will intervene for all of China's other persecuted and incarcerated Christians.
