2020-03-01 Bulletin

Next Sunday, March 8th

is the second Sunday of Lent. We continue in our Lenten series on the Feasts of Israel by reflecting on the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Leviticus 23:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 5:6-8. The Feast of Unleavened Bread is also part of the Passover Feast and it focuses on the importance of finding the sin in our lives and then cleansing our hearts and lives of sin. This is not something we have the strength to do in our own strength, for this we need the blood of Jesus, the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema, Bill Wildeboer and Rena DeRuiter. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world.

In celebration of Walter Land’s 80th birthday, you are invited to a birthday celebration open house on Saturday, March 7th from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Bethel CRC Fellowship Hall.

Bethel News

From Council:

It is time again to be thinking about who you would nominate for Council positions for the coming year. We require three Elders, one Youth Elder and two Deacons to be added as part of Council for the next three years. Completing their terms this year are Elders Peter Prins, Herman Scholing and Rod Venhuis and Deacon Peter Heidelberg.

Who is eligible for nomination?

The present council members are Adam Eisses, Pete Heidelberg, Ina Jackson, August Luymes, Peter Prins, Herman Scholing, Andrew Tenbrinke, Arnie Tenbrinke, Ben Van Essen, Rod Venhuis and Ann Wildeboer. All office bearers are given a two year break between terms of service. Those who are therefore excused eligibility are Bryan Noordhof, Trudy Salomons, Terry Vandenborn and Rick Wildeboer. Women are eligible for the position of Deacon. You do not need to speak with each person to nominate them and you can nominate as many people as you feel are qualified. The district elders will officially approach the nominees.

Please prayerfully consider nominating those members you feel are gifted to serve as office bearers. A nomination form will be handed out prior to the offering being taken on the Sunday March 8th worship service. Forms will be collected as you leave the sanctuary that morning. For those who cannot be present on March 8th, nomination forms are available now, from any Council member. Please have all nominations turned in by Sunday March 15th to either Peter Prins or Clerk Paul Prins. In these weeks preceding nominations, we seek the Lord for his guidance in this process. Council deeply appreciates your prayerful consideration in this matter.

Pastor Jake will be holding a class for all those interested in doing Profession of Faith this June. These classes will be held Tuesday evenings from May 5th to June 2nd. More than a hundred Boko Haram militants stormed into the town of Garkida, a predominantly Christian town, on February 21st, causing chaos, loss and destruction. According to reports, they killed two soldiers at a military checkpoint before entering the town where they spent hours ransacking, looting and killing. By the time order was restored, at least three church buildings were destroyed, along with a police station, hospital, and an unspecified number of houses. The total number of people killed or kidnapped had not yet been determined by local officials. Pray for the many Christians of this community who have been traumatized as a result of the recent attack. Ask for comfort for the loved ones of those killed. Pray for them who have lost their homes, churches, and/or personal belongings in the rampage. May the perpetrators have a dramatic encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ who longs for their salvation.
