2020-04-12 Bulletin

Next Sunday, April 19th

We will be reflecting on the GEMS’ verse and them for this past year. Unfortunately, we cannot hold a GEMS Sunday as in past years, but their theme of “Loved” is always powerful and applicable. We will be reflecting on 1 John 3:1-3, Loved! Our greatest desire is to be loved; if we miss out on knowing the amazing love of God for us, we will fill that empty place with something or someone else instead. We are loved so much by God that he makes us his children, a part of the family!

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema, Bill Wildeboer and Rena DeRuiter. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world.

From the Pastor:

During these trying times, it’s more important than ever to stay connected when we are asked to practice social distancing. How does Bethel do this? The following are currently being offered to you. If you are in need of assistance to view or obtain hard copies of sermon notes or bulletins, contact Pastor Jake or Dana.

  • A Daily Devotion will be posted on the Bethel Facebook page (Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Lacombe, AB) and website (www.lacombebethelcrc.org).
  • Facebook Live: Pastor Jake will be taking moments on Facebook to chat and pray. Like us and share with your friends and family.
  • Good Friday & Easter Sunday Worship Services will be videotaped and posted on the new Bethel YouTube channel. An Order of Worship will be emailed to you Thursday & Saturday when the video is ready for viewing.
  • Sunday Worship Services will continue to be recorded audio only and posted on the Bethel website and Bridge App.
  • Good Friday & Easter Sunday Sermon written version, will be posted on Pastor Jake’s blog (Jacob's Musings @ http://jacobboer.blogspot.ca/) the Bridge App and on the Facebook page.
  • Good Friday & Easter Sunday Sermon & Bulletin: A hard copy of both papers will be delivered to a number of our seniors at their place of residence. An envelope with your name will be dropped off at the front entrance for you to pick up. Please let Dana know if you require a large print for easy reading.

Bethel News

Pastor’s Spring class

this spring Pastor Jake will be leading a study in the area of Growing in Our Faith. We will be studying The Prodigal God by Tim Keller and reflecting on our image of God as a Father, and the power of grace. We will be setting dates for this class once we have some clarity on when it will be safe to gather together again. Pastor Jake is looking at the possibility of doing this over Zoom and is wondering how many people would be interested in holding a study this way; please send him an email @ jacobhboer@gmail.com if this is something you would like to try out.

From the Office:

During these times of change we have been asked to practice social distancing. What this means for most of us is conducting our lives with restraint from visiting our family and friends. But for our seniors it means a complete cut off from the world outside of their homes. Whether their homes are the Lacombe Senior Lodge, the Pepper Tree, Royal Oak, Chateau Lacombe or Spruce Terrace our seniors are being kept from their loved ones. The outlook for the lockdown will be for many weeks and the thought of their loneliness is something most of us can’t comprehend. What can Bethel do to alleviate their loneliness? During Easter weekend could you, your children, your family, take some time and write a letter, take some pictures or make a homemade cards with drawings. Something encouraging to lift the spirits of our beloved seniors. Send your contributions to bchurch2@shaw.ca and Dana will print off a care package to be sent out next week Friday for their enjoyment and amusement.

April CACHS newsletter

Is now on the website (www.cachs.ca). With everything that was happening in March and then with the March break, we did not send out a March newsletter but just did up the April one a bit early. I have sent out a handful of newsletters by snail mail to some of our senior (and not so senior) supporters. Also if people would like to be put on our email list for the newsletter could they please email the school at office@cachs.ca and let us know their email address.

Kids in Action during COVID-19

Kids Corner wants to create an encouraging and fun video to tell the stories of real kids doing God’s work in the world during COVID-19. Know a someone 18 or younger creating great sidewalk art to cheer up neighbors? A family sewing hospital masks for the local ER? A kid who's leading online worship with music? Send us your videos and pictures and help us tell their story. We’ll compile stories and create a video to share the good news of kids serving God during this difficult time. To start, check out the KC YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/c/kidscornertv to see past Kids in Action videos and get an idea of the way we tell stories. Then check out kidscorner.reframemedia.com/kids-in-action-during-covid-19 for video tips and to learn how to send us your story.

Pray for the church in India.

22 churches were burnt down this week and more than 200 churches in Olisabang province are threatened to be destroyed soon and 200 missionaries are in danger also. Christians are hiding in villages. Pray for them. Ask God to have mercy on our brothers and sisters in India.
