Welcome to the Isaac and Rebekah family devotional. The story of Isaac and Rebekah is a love story written by God. It began with God calling Abraham to be the father of a great nation, and continued when the time came for Isaac (Abraham’s son) to get married. Abraham gave the task of finding a wife for his son, to his most trusted servant. His servant promised to find Isaac a godly wife from Abraham’s hometown. After a long journey, Abraham’s servant met Rebekah and knew immediately that he had found the right woman for Isaac!

At-home Faith Formation Tip:

Mealtime prayers remind us that God provides for us and model for kids how to connect with God regularly and sincerely. Here’s a table prayer by Maureen Edwards, from Blessed Be Our Table, Wild Goose 2003. “Loving God, bless our food and drink, our friendship and our laughter, that we may be renewed in body, mind, and spirit to work together for the coming of your kingdom of justice, love, and peace. Amen.” (Tip from Faith Formation Ministries; crcna.org/FaithFormation)

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob stand towering among Old Testament leaders. They have always been celebrated for their faith, obedience, and accomplishments. But to only see their success without also seeing their flaws would alter the central message of the Bible—humans are sinners, and it is the grace of God that saves and transforms them through Christ Jesus. In this Bible study based on his book, Anand Mahadevan takes a fresh, true perspective on the lives of these three heroes and their many failures that will leave you captivated by the beauty, patience, and transforming power of God’s grace.

Many people feel like their life leads them from one path to the next with no certainty. Is this the right job? Is he or she “the one?” Is now the time to have kids? What do I do now? Am I even on the right path? In these four video Bible study sessions, viewers will experience cinematic short films that show Abraham living in the 21st century. What might he think and feel with the incredible steps of faith God asked him to take? After each short film, Mark Batterson will teach on the Biblical principles from Abraham's story that applies to us today.

Abraham and Sarah are promised a son in their old age by the Lord. They cherish their miracle child, Isaac. When God commands Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice to Him, Abraham must make the most difficult decision of his life. This story is one of the greatest tests of obedience, faith and trust in God found anywhere in the Bible. Abraham passes the test and renews faith in God's promise that he will become the father of many nations.

Episode 5 is called "Brothers at War," and it is about the descendants of Abraham. It starts with the birth of Isaac. It is a joyous occasion for the family, until God's great challenge to Abraham. God tells him he must kill the boy, for it is His word. Really it is a test of Abraham's faith, and when he passes the test, God makes a promise to him - which Isaac will go on to lead a great nation.
