2020-09-13 Bulletin

Next Sunday, September 20th

we continue our series on The Gospel by reflecting on Romans 10:1-21, How Can They Hear? Why are we here, what is Bethel’s purpose here in Lacombe? This is a question that we should be thinking about regularly and we turn to Scripture to discover that we are here to share the Gospel news, to work with the Holy Spirit to bring the Good News of Jesus to all those God places in our path, how else will they come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour?

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema and Bill Wildeboer. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world, Diana Boot, Margaret Njuguna, Albert & Carolyn Strydhorst and John & Marian VanderMeer.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday to Margaret Stephenson, Carol Hosmer and Lies Boskers! Each lovely lady celebrates their special day today, Monday and Wednesday. We pray that your day be enjoyed with an abundance of love and laughter with family and friends and may our Lord continue to bless you daily and into your new year.

Bethel News

Pastor Jake has relocated his study to Wolf Creek Community Church for the next few months while our Bethel Church building undergoes renovation. Feel free to stop on by for coffee, tea and a chat. I am in my study most mornings Monday through Friday.

Do you have a desire to grow in your faith, explore who God is and who you are, reflect on what it means to be a follower of Jesus who makes more followers of Jesus? Are you willing to commit yourself to an 11-month journey with a small group to walk this journey? Pastor Jake will be hosting a small group of 3-4 people who will meet monthly to discuss God, faith, discipleship and more, who will commit to praying for each other, meet together at least once each month to pray for and encourage each other, and who will commit to hosting a similar small group within 2 years. If the Holy Spirit is leading you to walk this journey, speak with Pastor Jake and your elder and ask your elder for a letter of reference.

Tuesday Morning Prayer: You are invited to join us at 11 a.m. at the home Henry & Joan Eisses. If you have any questions please contact Henry. Mark & Selina Patterson will be offering to host an alternative time to meet for prayer in their home on Wednesday evenings. Look for date and time in next week’s bulletin.

Come help our YOUTH with Highway Cleanup! Saturday, September 19, 2020 is Highway Clean-up. Our youth will be participating to raise money for Mission Trips or other youth outings. This is a rewarding opportunity to get out and be a positive presence in our community! Many hands make light work and we would love your help! Please let Jen Zuidhof at 403-506-2807 or one of our youth leaders know if you are willing to help out. We would like to have a numbers count by Wednesday, September 16th as we will be feeding you lunch and snack and need to make sure there is enough food to go around. Please meet at 7 a.m. on September 19th at the Bethel parking lot for instructions. Thank you!

Tuesday Night Youth on September 15th for grades 7-12: The leaders ask that you be dropped off at the home of Andrew & Carina Tenbrinke until our church reno is finished. Please arrive by 7:30 p.m. for games with classes from 8-9 p.m. TNY will take place EVERY Tuesday unless there is no school that day. If you have any questions, please call Andrew.

Lacombe Christian School: On Thursday, September 10, we marked the 75th year of LCS! Our theme this year is Living in God’s Faithfulness, Our Foundation, and Our Future. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6&7

Sadly there are limitations on what we are able to do for celebrations, thanks to COVID-19, but we trust God’s plan and are hopeful to be able to gather together to celebrate in the future. We pause to reflect back on God’s provision for LCS over the past 75 years and His care over the generations that attended LCS realizing how blessed we are to have such a supportive community. It is encouragement such as yours that is so very helpful in our goal of nurturing and educating our students to the glory of God, by His grace, and on the foundation of His word to be Spirit-filled Disciples of Christ and responsible, discerning citizens in society. We are honoured that you share our vision for Christian Education and are thankful for your support!

Dear Friends at Bethel CRC: Thank you for giving to God’s mission through Resonate and hoping for the day everyone will know the joy and peace of faith in Christ.

At Resonate, we have hope for the future because God has given us the promise of victory in Jesus. And we have hope that comes from being part of a supportive body of Christ—encouraged and supported by generous donors like you.

You are a breath of fresh air for missionaries, church planters, campus ministers, and other ministry leaders both here at home and around the world. They depend on you in order to continue proclaiming the gospel, wherever God has placed them. Thank you for walking with them on mission!

Spreading the gospel has become both more important and more difficult right now, with so many experiencing the anxiety and stress of the coronavirus pandemic. Together with you, we are taking a stand to say that the gospel is essential! We are so grateful for your partnership on mission. Thank you for sharing your hope with the world! Ethiopia: At least 500 Christians have been killed in an ongoing spate of coordinated door-to-door attacks and thousands of traumatized survivors have fled for their lives over the last two months in southern Ethiopia, including its capital Addis Ababa. Some of the militants held lists of Christians and were helped by local authorities to find individuals, particularly those actively involved in supporting the Church. A Christian was beheaded after he refused to tear off the thread around his neck, which is worn by many Ethiopian Christians as a sign of their baptism. While we can only imagine the cruelty these brothers and sisters in faith are going through, we can lift them up in prayer. May the Lord surround them with His nearness and comfort.
