2020-12-27 Bulletin

The offering for today is for mission support for John & Marian Vandermeer. John & Marian are stationed in Africa for Wycliffe Canada. They are providing media-related support to the Bible translation teams. This includes both training and working with the teams in recording audio, video creation, film dubbing, and creating phone apps and such. In language communities where traditionally information was passed through stories, proverbs and songs, media can be a tool to aid the local church in communicating their translated Scriptures.

The offering for next Sunday, January 3rd is for Rehoboth Christian Ministries. Rehoboth conveys God’s love to persons with disabilities and their families by making room for them and enabling them to flourish.

New Year’s Day we will be gathering together on New Year’s Day at 10:30 am to begin our year with worship. We will be reflecting on Joshua 4, Crossing Over into a New Future. The beginning of a new year is always a good time to think about what some of our hopes and dreams are for us as Bethel Church and to ask God for his blessing on the year ahead.

Next Sunday, January 3rd we will begin a series on the story of Joseph, son of Jacob. Joseph is a complex character who grows to become a deep man of faith used by God to give his people a time to grow safely into a nation while protecting them from a time of famine. We will begin the series by reflecting on Genesis 37:1-11, The Dreamer.

Starting next Friday, January 8th the link for pre-registration for future church services will be posted with your bulletin email.

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: Jennie Bajema and Bill Wildeboer. Pray also for those who struggle in silence with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. Continue to pray for our missionaries around the world, Diana Boot, Margaret Njuguna, Albert & Carolyn Strydhorst and John & Marian VanderMeer.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please remember Gerrit & Dorothy Meindersma as Gerrit was taken to the hospital earlier this week due to weakness. Pray for strength, comfort and peace.
  • Condolences to Art and Judy Hazelhoff. Art’s mother was taken home to be with the Lord after contracting COVID. May the Lord fill you with his presence.
  • Condolences to Clarence & Doreen Kits as Doreen sister was taken home to the Lord. May you feel the Lord’s comfort and peace. We also remember Clarence’s brother Kor as he is walking through serious health issues and is currently doing well
  • Pastor Lawrence Sackmann, scheduled surgery was abruptly postponed. Please remember him, his wife Annette and family as they wait for a new surgery date.
  • Several Bethel families are walking alongside family members and friends who are struggling with health issues. Please pray that the Lord will be with them and use us to bring strength, hope and peace to each other.

Please note address change for Jennie Bajema: Wilkie & District Health Centre, P.O Box 508, Wilkie, SK, S0K 4W0.

Bethel News

Pastor Jake has relocated his study to Wolf Creek Community Church. Feel free to stop on by for coffee, tea and a chat. I am in my study most mornings Monday through Thursday this week. Drop on by for a chat.

Reading the Bible: Pastor Jake is be reading through the Bible, beginning with Genesis, on Friday mornings on Bethel Church’s Facebook, live from 10am until 10:30 am, to help us hear the Word in large sections, helping us to make more connections between the stories on who God is and how God works in and through the lives of his people. Over this week, Pastor Jake will not be reading online on New Year’s Day and will resume reading on Bethel Church Facebook on Friday, January 8th.

The New Year is coming quickly and Pastor Jake is planning out classes and Bible studies for January and February. Once we are back in our church building again, Pastor Jake is going to be offering a 6-7 week overview of the Heidelberg Catechism on Sunday evenings. We will look at the Catechism through its teaching on Comfort, Sin, Who God Is, The Apostle’s Creed, Lord’s Prayer, The Ten Commandments, and the Sacraments.

Every Man a Warrior: we are looking to start up men’s ministry again in January when we are able to be in our own building again. We are looking at beginning Men’s Breakfast, but Pastor Jake is also looking for 5 men with a heart for being trained as leaders in a ministry for and to men called Every Man a Warrior. To learn more about Every Man a Warrior, you are encouraged to check out their website at https://everymanawarrior.com/ Pastor Jake has arranged with one of their trainers to train 5 men in the program. From the website: We all exchange our lives for something, and there is nothing more fulfilling than exchanging your life to help other men become the men God wants them to be. In leading this course, you will have the opportunity to take men through a series of studies that can change their lives forever. It could also potentially affect future generations as these men become better husbands to their wives and fathers to their children.

From the Office: Due to New Year’s Day landing on a Friday, I will be finishing and delivering the bulletins on Wednesday, December 30th. Please have all bulletin announcements in by Wednesday, December 30th at 9 a.m. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me by email, bchurch2@shaw.ca or my cell. Wishing everyone a blessed New Year season.

It has come to my attention that some members are not on the mass email list and have been missing out on bulletins, orders of worship and news from our council. If you know of someone who would benefit from this service, please talk to them to contact Dana to get the list updated.

Today Devotionals for the months of January & February will be available at the Sunday services. If you choose to worship at home and would like a copy, please contact Dana to arrange one to be delivered to you. For those who have the Bridge App, you will find the devotional at your fingertips.

Tuesday Night Youth: We look forward to meeting again on January 12, 2021. Remember that your youth leaders continue to pray for you and are available any time you would like to chat.
