but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Forgiveness and grace are at the heart of the Christian faith. I’ve found though, that some Christians have a hard time feeling forgiven, while others accept it as something God owes them. Forgiveness is a decision by God to forgive us our sin because Jesus chose to take our sin and its punishment on himself to the cross. This is meant to bring us peace, yet often our inability to forgive ourselves keeps us from experiencing God’s forgiveness. On the other hand, if we accept God’s forgiveness and there is no change in our lives, if there is no change in our hearts and character, then we need to ask ourselves if we really are followers of Jesus. Often this is because we fail to recognize the extremely high cost that our forgiveness cost Jesus.

I pray that you experience God’s forgiveness in your heart and soul and that you are being transformed by the Holy Spirit into the person God has created you to be.

Q. What do you believe concerning “the forgiveness of sins”?

A. I believe that God, because of Christ’s satisfaction, will no longer remember any of my sins or my sinful nature which I need to struggle against all my life. Rather, by grace God grants me the righteousness of Christ to free me forever from judgment.
