1 Thess. 5:16-18 Praying

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

We’re going to be reflecting on the Lord’s Prayer for the next little while. Prayer has always been a bit of a puzzle for me since God knows the words on our tongues even before we say them, and God knows what we need, often even better than we know, so why pray? Yet over the years I’ve learned that prayer is so important for our faith because it keeps us connected with God in an intentional personal way. Prayer is about checking in with God about our day, about our joys and struggles and in talking to God, it’s amazing how that often is enough to help us go thorough our days in a healthy way. Prayer also helps me to remember to be thankful and joyful for who God is and how it’s so close to us always. What are some of the things you’ve learned about the importance of prayer?

Q. Why do Christians need to pray?

A. Because prayer is the most important part of the thankfulness God requires of us. And also because God gives his grace and Holy Spirit only to those who pray continually and groan inwardly, asking God for these gifts and thanking God for them.
