2 Chron. 7:14 How to Pray

posted Jun 16, 2020, 10:40 AM by Jacob Boer

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

If you are a parent, you know that tone is everything, it’s the same with prayer, tone is important. When we talk to God, we need to be careful not to approach God as an ATM machine or with demands, we need to remember who God is, what he has done for us through Jesus’ sacrifice, and approach him with a spirit of humility and gratitude. Prayer is supposed to be a time where we talk to God, listen to him, and simply spend time with him in order to get to know him better and to get to know our own hearts. So as you talk with God today, take some time to listen and reflect, ask God, “Who do you want me to be, what are you calling me to do as your child and ambassador here?” The promise from God is that he will hear your prayer and respond with grace and guidance.

Q. What is the kind of prayer that pleases God and that he listens to?

A. First, we must pray from the heart to no other than the one true God, revealed to us in his Word, asking for everything God has commanded us to ask for.

Second, we must fully recognize our need and misery, so that we humble ourselves in God’s majestic presence.

Third, we must rest on this unshakable foundation: even though we do not deserve it, God will surely listen to our prayer because of Christ our Lord. That is what God promised us in his Word.
