2 Corinthians 5:17-19 No Foreclosure Here!

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

I was reading today about how there are a lot of people who may have to default on their mortgages because so many people are without work right now. Then right after reading this, the next article said that banks are willing to work with people to make sure that they don’t lose their homes. This is a little bit like what happens with us and God. We’ve built up this huge debt of honour to him through our sin and if God wants, he could foreclose on our lives, but he works with us. God does this by sending Jesus, his only begotten son, to pay the price of our sin himself so that we are now free from sin and our relationship with God has been made right again. Praise be to Jesus for paying a debt we never could!

Q. How are you righteous before God?

A. Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is accept this gift with a believing heart.
