John 14:25–27 (NIV)

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

We are in unusual times here in Canada and unusual times often bring us a sense of unease, putting us off balance in our hearts and minds. There are those in our church family who are in self quarantine in order to protect their loved ones from possibly catching the COVID 19 virus, others are working from home so they can limit our contact with others, and others who still need to work with others while taking all the sanitary precautions we can.

It’s in times like this that Jesus’ gift of peace helps us to remember that we are not alone, that Jesus has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit and the reassurance that he knows what is happening and is with us, offering us his peace and calmness in all the uncertainty. This peace Jesus gives us comes in knowing that God loves us more than anything and will hold onto us through everything that lies ahead of us.

Today rest in the peace Jesus gives, a peace as one writer says is, “a mysterious and perfect quiet that exists in all circumstances, to rest in the peace of his presence.”

Lord calm our hearts and minds today and allow us to rest with peace in your hands. Amen
