Gal. 2:16 Saved through Faith Alone

posted Apr 28, 2020, 10:32 AM by Jacob Boer

“yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law.”

Our faith is based on grace, on unearned forgiveness, on a love greater than any love we can offer back. This is hard for many people to accept because that means we’re not capable to saving ourselves, a disgrace in our society. Yet when we’re really honest with ourselves, we have to admit that there is so much stuff in our lives, in our past that we can’t make right, that there are lots of things we wish we could take back because of the hurt it caused, and we’re unable to change or fix these events, these hurts and broken relationships. Only God, only Jesus, can bring healing into these places of our hearts, wash the dirt and hurt away, and bring reconciliation into the brokenness we created, and Jesus does this out of love and at no cost to us. The only response we are called to do is to believe in Jesus as Lord and Saviour; this is faith. What is your response?

Q. How are you righteous before God?

A. Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is accept this gift with a believing heart.
