John 14:16-17

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

I was talking with an RCMP officer this morning and he mentioned that they were receiving more calls related to mental health issues and stress. We talked about how hard it can be to be strong at a time like this when so much of life is no longer in our control. I mentioned how my faith and my dog helps me through times like this (we were walking our dogs J). He wondered how faith would make a difference and I told him that through the Holy Spirit, God knows exactly what’s going on inside of me: the stress, worry, fear, uncertainty and this helps me because I know that God knows exactly what’s going on inside me and exactly what I need. This gives me peace because God will give us what we need to make it through this time, often using someone around me to encourage me or he will simply and quietly fill me with a sense of peace if I ask.

Q. What do you believe concerning “the Holy Spirit”?

A. First, that the Spirit, with the Father and the Son, is eternal God.

Second, that the Spirit is given also to me, so that, through true faith, he makes me share in Christ and all his benefits, comforts me, and will remain with me forever.
